Post Please help me with my audition! <3
Hi all,

I am auditioning for BatB in less than a week, I am auditioning for Belle in particular, but also Mrs. Potts, Babette and Madame. My range is G3-E6.

Which of these song choices do you think would be the most appropriate?

Light in the Piazza - The Light in the Piazza
Practically Perfect - Mary Poppins
Someone Like You - Jekyll & Hyde

Any other suggestions?

Replies asap would be very much appreciated :D

I think "Someone Like You" would be the best choice! Another good choice might be "On My Own". Good Luck!

Honestly, I think all three are good choices. I agree that "Someone Like You" is a very good choice, but now that you've narrowed down your choices, you need to think about a few things.. namely, which one do you feel most comfortable singing? Which one shows off your range? The only thing I would worry about with your list is the tendency for those songs to be overdone, which would make you blend in rather than stand out, which is the exact opposite of what you want! I used "Someone Like You" for an audition once, but the show J&H isn't too super popular right now, so it would probably be safe. I'd be a little more hesitant with "Light in the Piazza" and "Mary Poppins".... and I would never, ever, ever, ever, ever recommend singing "On My Own". Break a leg!

Thank you for your advice!
I will definitely narrow it down between Light in the Piazza and Someone Like You, however, I am probably more comfortable with the latter.
The issue is, they want to hear a disney song also and I thought Mary Poppins would be a little bit different from the usual Little Mermaid "Part of Your World" which I cannot stand!
Any advice on disney songs? :D

I thought perhaps "Colours of the Wind" from Pocohontas, but as I am a lyric soprano I may not be able to "belt" the notes out as such, it's more of a mix-belt.

Disney songs would be alright. They all have that sort of "Disney" vibe and fit in well with each other. I wouldn't sing from the show, but I might look into "Reflection" from Mulan, "Happy Working Song" from or the first verse of "True Love's Kiss" from Enchanted, or even "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" from Cinderella. Do not, do not, do not, do not, do not sing "Part of Your World"! So many directors are tuning that out now.

Thank you for all the advice.
I think I am set on singing Someone Like You and Colours of the Wind. Hopefully these two contrast enough though? I considered "Just around the riverbend" but I don't know it very well at all!

Change of plans! I will now be singing:

Just Around the Riverbend - Pocohontas
+
Someone Like You - Jekyll and Hyde

:)

I wish I had seen this earlier! Yes, definitely go with Just Around the Riverbend, I've always thought it a great audition song for Belle- similar range/wide range, same adventuresome nature with a touch of wistfulness... Great choice! :)
If they're not looking for two songs, offer that first. Say you have something beltier if they want to hear belt then offer SLY.
Break a leg!

My audition is tomorrow and I am very excited/nervous. I hope it goes well, it'll be my first time jumping onto the theatre scene again after a few years of focusing solely on study.
Thank you for all the advice and support! I'll be sure to let you all know how it goes :)

Update: Just completed my audition! I was quite happy with how it went. I was able to sing both songs and I feel I really soared. I was hesitant at the beginning but then all the nerves suddenly dissolved after the first few lyrics :D
Hoping for a callback, I guess I'll have to wait and see!
