Post Song Discussion: "Maison de Lunes"
I've noticed that this song doesn't get a lot of love on these forums very often. I really love this song; it's probably my favorite of the male songs in the show. The scene where Gaston plots with D'Arque to incarcerate Maurice in the movie could have easily been overlooked, but I'm very glad that it was made into a song of the stage show. I also think that it includes some of Tim Rice's wittiest lyrics outside of his work with Webber. So, who else loves this wonderful song?

I enjoy the song mainly because it stands out in the show. Mostly everything has the same progression and is incredibly predictable (not that I don't love every minute of it)
At least Maison has some intriguing harmonies.

I do not love, but I enjoy.

I like the song, I think it clarifies their plan a lot better than in the movie. But does anyone know why the version on the OBCR has different lyrics to other versions on the internet and to the lyrics in the script? Just wondering.

I liked the song when I saw the stage show. It was nice to see something different from the film version, and it made Gaston's plot seem more focused and sinister.
However, trying to recall the tune, it has not stuck in my head. Whether this is a case of an unmemorable tune, or just that the iconic songs were easier to remember, I don't know.

Yeah the lyrics in the MTI script are different then the ones on the OBCR.
No clue why... I guess the OBC didn't like the lyrics in the script? I have to admit I like the OBCR lyrics better.

I liked the OBCR version better too. Oh well, it's not like I have to sing it.

I love the song, and agree that's very underrated. The lyrics are incredibly witty, as already stated. In addition to this, the song allows for a wide range of acting. Any of the three actors can make it their scene. In ours, I would almost venture to say Lefou stole the scene with his comedic antics involving alcohol, trying to understand the plan, etc. Monsieur D'Arque's "I love incarceration..." part is a very memorable one from the song and can easily be used as a tool to clinch the scene. And of course, Gaston is the one who is causing all this and already the largest role of the three. The audience's natural inclination is to focus on him, if not Monsieur because he is a new character. Those are two reasons I was very impressed with our Lefou stealing the song in our show.

And yes, the harmonies are spectacular. They're very unlike anything else in the score.

I don't care for the song. The music is unmemorable, and the lyrics are June moon. Also, D'Arque is tangent character belonging to a subplot of the subplot, and giving him a song is unjustified. But far be it from me to voice an unpopular opinion.

I love this song, the whole cast would request them to practice it for us.
