Post Beast and Gaston!
Hello all, first post ever!

So I am 15 years old, and have been in one production of a play called "Murder's in the Heir" and played a detective. A week ago were auditions for Beauty and the Beast and I landed the role of Beast. As you can guess, I am quite excited since I have no singing experience or musical experience whatsoever.

So my question is, is Gaston a character which just steals the show? I am not a self-centered ego-maniac but I do like my stage time, so in your opinion, who is the more "show-stealing" character, Gaston or Beast?

Congratulations! It really depends on who is playing Gaston. In my opinion, Gaston gets the laughs but the Beast is the one the audience feels for. If you put everything into the emotions he goes through, it will be a brilliant performance. The thing that stands out about the Beast is how much he changes throughout the show, for example 'If I Can't Love Her' never fails to stir me when I hear it and in the scene when Belle reads 'King Arthur' it becomes clear just how unhappy the Beast has been until he meets her. Plus, he gets the girl in the end! Good luck, I hope you enjoy the part!

No problem :)

I was just watching this on YouTube, in this part the Beast does actually get some laughs as well as Gaston.

The whole show is on there too.

I would much rather play the Beast than Gaston any day, and would also say the Beast is the show-stealing character. In our production he was the last of the cast to bow, if I remember correctly. Huge congrats on getting cast as him. =D> Keep us updated on your production. Welcome to the world of musical theatre!
