Post Audition Help Please!
So I'm auditioning for BatB next Sunday. I just found out about this audition, so it's going to be a quick little put-together. I need 16 bars of any song from musical theatre.

It's a high school production at a school I have not auditioned at before. I'm a sophomore, and a mezzo soprano. I can sing comfortably consistently from the a below middle c to a high f below a high c.

I'm really just aiming to be in chorus, since I'm just a sophomore and I've never auditioned there before, but I also might like to try for a Silly Girl.

If anyone has any suggestions for audition songs, that would be great!

Also, it would be nice if I already have the music for it, so, just in case you're familiar with any of these books, these are the songbooks I have:

Vocal Selections from Thoroughly Modern Millie
" " " Little Women
" " " Les Miserables/Les Miserables Vocal Score
" " " Oklahoma
" " " Wicked
" " " Joseph...Dreamcoat
" " " In the Heights
West Side Story Vocal Score
Once on this Island Vocal Score
Cats Vocal Score
The Wiz Vocal Score
The Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology Mezzo-soprano/Belter Volume 4
" Volume 2
The Contemporary Singing Actor Revised Women's Audition Volume 1
The Best Broadway Songs Ever
Broadway Musicals Show by Show 1989-2005
Broadway for Teens Young Women's Edition
All Sondheim Vol. 1
Singer's Library of Musical Theatre Soprano Volume 2

Thanks!

Hi there,

I found this excellent site,

http://sheetzbox.com/

Where you can type into the search box for any song and then download the sheet music for free. Check through them tho as some are simply the piano part, some are with lyrics.

I would pick a song with quite a lot of range in it. I did just around the riverbend from pocohontas...or perhaps you could sing something from the little mermaid.

http://sheetzbox.com/piano/sheets/5563/ ... cores.html

You need to pick something quite up beat as it is a Disney musical...so personally I wouldn't pick anything from cats or les mis.

or I was just thinking, perhaps an exert from my fair lady...I could have danced all night?
Not right form the beginning...perhaps from around bar 14?

http://sheetzbox.com/piano/sheets/6398/ ... Notes.html

Good luck.

I just got a part as silly girl/ enchanted object.

Thanks so much! I have a feeling I'll be using that site quite a lot now...

I'm thinking I might do part of "Jimmy" from Thoroughly Modern Millie... What do you think?

I have to admit, I've never seen that show, however, watching it and listening to it, I think it does give a good range for you to demonstrate.

If you really like the song and think it shows off your voice then I would go for it.

I'd audition for Belle aswell if I were you. You may aswell give it a go! 3 of us who auditioned for Belle in my theatre company got parts of the silly girls.

B x When is your audition anyway? Good Luck xxx

Thanks! I don't think they make you write down what part you're going for, so I'll aim for Belle, of course (Seems like SUCH a fun role).

The audition is this Sunday. I'll let you know how it goes.

They said the dance part of the audition is optional- only if you want the part of the silly girls, Babette, or dancing chorus. I figure I'll stay for it- I don't see why you wouldn't. Plus, I love dance auditions :)

I think it went pretty well-
first we had the dance audition, and I'm not a dancer, so I didn't do fantastic, but I remembered everything and I smiled, so that was pretty good. Plus the dance audition was optional, so I guess it didn't hurt.

I sang the last 16 measures of "Jimmy"- starting at "so, Jimmy, oh Jimmy, don't you know"- and I think I really nailed it... the last note was a little weird, but other than that, I think I did pretty well.

I find out Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. I hate waiting...

Oh good luck! I'm also waiting to find out the casting of our production, I'm really hoping to be cast as Belle! I know how annoying the waiting process is but regardless of how it turns out, know that you did your best. x

I made it! Also, I went to the audition with five other girls from my school and we all made it. I'm in chorus (and they're going to cast villagers, townspeople, and wolves from there.) Rehearsals start January 4. I'm so excited!
