I was recently cast as Henrik in "A Little Night Music"- something I'm very excited to do- but there's a problem: I'm not a tenor. I have the Ab so with work that should be fine by opening, but then there's "Later".

Is it okay for me to use falsetto there? I have a decently strong falsetto, some have said that it almost sounds like a bit of a mix, but I'm not comfortable with hitting the note any other way.

So my real question is: How often have you seen/heard of a lyric-baritone as Henrik? Did they flip for the B? Any other advice would be appreciated as well!

I know that this video the guy singing the song does it in falsetto.

But for an actual production? Generally they cast an operatic tenor in the part so they can get the most out of the high note. But if they cast you in it and you have a good falsetto you might be able to get away with it. Just, yeah - I think generally he's cast as an operatic tenor.

Yeah, I definitely have a strong base in opera (I was Guglielmo in 'Cosi' earlier this year), but as a lyric-baritone I only have up to the Ab.

Trust me, I was as surprised as anyone else. Who knows maybe a miracle will happen, eh? Any advice for extending my range the extra third or faking the note a bit better?

Dude, I'm pretty much flatly a bass. Only thing I got is keep at those range extenders in warm-ups.
