Can this song be tweaked into a solo? I don't know when it's going to happen, but I've been thinking/planning for a cabaret, and wondering if Anne could be cut out of this song. Do you think it would work? If so, how?

I think it could work. You might need to switch some lyrics around, but Anne's really only in the song for dramatic purposes. The song could easily be used as a solo, in my opinion. :)

I'd love to hear your version of it!

This was my idea for it, tell me what you think:

"He talks softly of his wars, and his horses and his whores
YOU think love's a dirty business, so do I"

"Men are stupid, men are vain, love's disgusting, love's insane
A humiliating business- IT'S true... ah well"

:shifty:

Does that work? And thanks for replying, Elliott. :)
( I can't remember who cast it (I want to say you or Jack), but someone made a 'cast a show' post with me as Charlotte and now that I've seen the show, I agree- a perfect fit for me- total dream role!)

This is the lyrics to a solo version I heard at a concert:

Every day a little death
In the parlor, in the bed
In the curtains, in the silver
In the buttons, in the bread
Every day a little sting
In the heart and in the head
Every move and every breath
And you hardly feel a thing
Brings a perfect little death

He smiles sweetly
Strokes my hair
Says he misses me
I would murder him right there
But first I die
He talks softly of his wars
Of his horses
And his whores
I think love's a dirty business
Yes, I do

I'm before him on my knees
And he kisses me
He assumes I'll loose my reason
And I do
Men are stupid
Men are vain
Love's disgusting
Love's insane
A humiliating business
Oh, how true!

Every day a little death
In the looks and in the eyes
In the murmurs, in the gestures
In the pauses, in the sighs
Every day a little dies
In the looks and in the lies
Every move and every breath
And you hardly feel a thing
Brings a perfect little...
Death

High-baritonne's lyrics are pretty spot-on, in my opinion. :)
I think that may have been Jack--I've never been particularly good with casting, haha.
Like I said, I'd love to hear your performance of it! You'd be a killer Charlotte!
