I know! Did you see my post about Matt in the Mama Rose thread? When Kara and I saw the show we looked in the program and were like, "OMFG!" haha.

It's official. Now I'm super glad I saw Catherine and Angela sing a few of their songs at SOndheim's birthday gala so I can go see Bernie and Stritch in the show!!!

Awesome! I could very easily be in New York to see this!

I'm still not entirely sold on Stritch as Mme. Armfeldt though...I lovelovelove Bernadette though, so I have no doubt about her. But I'm imagining Stritch's "Liaisons" right now and it's...odd.

Oh well. This is exciting though! :D

Why though, Elliot? I saw Lansbury in the role and actually, her Liasons was incredibly mediocre. She, as well as Stritch, can barely sing nowadays. It's about the acting. And Lansbury's interpretation for me was slightly disappointing. Her dialogue was genius though!

I think Stritch will be phenomenal.

Oh I'm sure she'll do fine, it's just Mme. Armfeldt is a role I never thought of seeing Elaine Stritch in! :)

Now Bernadette's "Send in the Clowns"...THAT should be incredible.

I agree Lansbury's Liaisons was definitely about the 'acting'..but what did you find disappointing?

To me, it seemed like she was genuinely enjoying complaining and was excited telling her 'glamorous' stories...I found it hilarious. The lyrics of the song are hilarious too, which helps. But still, when I listen to the old recordings, I find them boring in comparison. (But Lansbury is the only person I've ever seen do the role - I have tickets to a local production at the Sydney Opera House though next month, which will be interesting).

I can imagine that Stritch's liaisons will be ridiculously hilarious (but maybe not necessarily in a good way - kind of like on the 1985 FOLLIES recording). I hope they record the show for PBS so I can see both casts!!

Post A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC Cast Replacements
SomeoneLikeYou on the Random Facts Thread wrote:
I'm going to see A Little Night Music for my birthday! I'm so ready to be starstruck! My only regret is that it couldn't be Bernadette Peters and Angela loved but Elaine Stritch is a legend, too, so it's okay!

I wish Angela Lansbury could have stayed on too : I would have loved to have her paired with Bernadette Peters, as the original casting rumours for the show had it before Catherine Zeta-Jones came on board. I would still like to see that pairing captured on film, ideally for the big screen in a full scale film adaptation of the show. That would be something to see. I do not really care much for the casting of Elaine Stritch. I am certain she will manage to draw laughs effortlessly and even elicit pathos in the way that she usually does, but I suspect that this will be more because she is Stritch in a period dress than because she has found the right mix between her persona and her interpretation of the character.
