Does anyone know of a clip anywhere of Angela Lansbury singing it? There was one on the other post, but its been deleted. And has Beradette Peters ever done it? I feel like she would be a natural.

Bernadette Peters has done it. There is a brief clip of her in SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM (when I saw the show, there was a brief applause from the audience for her, which was nice).

Unfortunately, I can't find it anywhere. Based on her imdb credits I'm guessing it was this one:

""The Sonny and Cher Show" (1 episode, 1976)
- Episode #2.11 (1976) TV episode (performer: "Send In the Clowns/Be a Clown", "White Christmas", "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town", "Here Comes Santa Claus")"

Not gonna lie, I saw the revival on Broadway 2 nights ago, and I kind of detested CZJ's. The direction was dreadful. She kept turning her head on every phrase. It was awkward and ineffective. But her performance as a whole was BRILLIANT!

I like Catherine's performance, I'm dying to see Bernadette's and this is one of the songs I'm not crazy about in Patti's voice...

Now, as for my favorite:
Julie Andrews

I'm interested to see how Bernadette's turns out.
Come to think of it, there are lots of songs I'd like to hear Bernadette sing...("Losing My Mind" anyone?)

But my favorite will always be Judi Dench's. Glynis Johns' is great too, if only because the song was tailor made for her.
But I'd be lying if I said Glenn Close's wasn't brilliant.

I also really really want to hear Bernadette sing "Losing My Mind" - she HAS in fact recently performed it in concerts. It annoys me that at the NY Philharmonic concert she sung "Not a day goes by"...though apparently Mazzie's "Losing" was amazing so I guess it isn't all bad. {I hope it is broadcast on PBS soon!}

I have no doubt that Bernadette will nail Clowns.

Dolbinau: If you're talking about one of Sondheim's 80th birthday concerts, it's supposed to be airing in September. Hopefully.
(EDIT: Then again, I haven't checked since April, and a quick look at the Great Performances website isn't listing it at all. Uh oh.)
But Mazzie's singing "Losing My Mind"? =P~ How have I not heard of this? That sounds glorious.
And Bernadette sings "Not a Day Goes By" quite a lot, it seems. :| Not that I'm complaining, cuz it's brilliant, but I'd love to hear her change it up now and then.

I saw CZJ's last performance and I wasn't really crazy about her send in the clowns, or her performance as a whole actually...

I'd say my favorites are Judi Dench and Glynis Johns. Though honestly I can imagine Bernadette really doing it justice.

You wouldn't be, because it is not! She misses the point of the entire song. She is truly blissful, when "bliss" is meant to me ironic, and that tone pervades her interpretation of the whole song.

I was referring to one of the concerts [the one to be broadcast], and in it Mazzie did sing "Losing my MInd". I can't wait for Donna's "Could I leave you?" too.

And it would be nice if Bernadette did change her concert repertoire a bit :P!

I don't think it's the greatest "Clowns" ever, but it's certainly passable at least, in my opinion anyway. I could be looking FAR too into it, but I got a lot of pain hidden by a smile with Close's performance.
But to each his own. :) Like I said, she's not my favorite anyway.

Doblinau: Donna Murphy's "Could I Leave You?" =P~ I must see this concert ASAP.

Interestingly there is a radio broadcast of A Little Night Music with Christine Ebersole as Desiree (and Mary Louise Wilson was going to play Armfeldt but pulled out at the last minute, damn!).

I haven't heard it yet. Someone should comment of her Clowns if they can :P.
