I have no one to go with. :| My family doesn't even know who Sondheim is, and my friends are busy obsessing over Next to Normal and Hair...le sigh...

Then again, the concert's not until April 26th. Maybe if I do some fast talking, I could get a date, providing tickets aren't sold out by then.

There you go!

You wouldn't go by yourself?

I'm seeing Sondheim on Sondheim and Anyone Can Whistle by myself.

Ah ha, they just added her back. When I looked last week, there was a note that Angela was no longer able to participate.

But now Nathan Lane and Catherine Zeta-Jones have also been added.

And Barbara Cook has disappeared.

What the hell? Why can't this list just stay put? Lol, my guess is that the roster will change another 10 times (exaggeration) before the big day...

Ok, so the gala was last night....just want to say that I enjoyed it but I ultimately was disappointed. I think the main reason was that so many of the stars that were on the list disappeared, including the following in the few days since I looked at the list again: Victor Garber, Tom Aldridge, and BERNADETTE PETERS!!!!

Bernadette not being there I think was what really dampened the mood for me (and if you were in NY yesterday, you know i was dampened enough from the rain already). They flew in the London "Dot" at the last minute and she did a fabulous job, but anyone who knows Bernadette's repetoir would have noticed that this woman was singing all the songs Peters would have sang (the song for the Sunday tribute, Broadway Baby, and a large part of the finale).

The show was narrated by John Doyle and a surprise guest, Mia Farrow, who is apparently close friends with Sondheim. I didn't know that.

Also, at the end, the entire cast was called out one by one in "purely" alphabetical order, save Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou, who were saved until last, according to Doyle "Only because we wanted to see them walk onstage together."

I'll post more on it when I have a little more time, but I wanted to get that out before someone else who might have been there spoils my fun. haha

MERRILY WE RROLL ALONG: “Our Time” – Jim Walton, Raúl Esparza and Maria Friedman
-- Mia Farrow brings on Stephen Sondheim to a sustained ovation. --

There were so many highlights I don't really know where to begin. I think if I had to point to my favorites, I'd have to say "Gun Song", "Moments in the Woods", "Someone In A Tree", "You Must Meet My Wife", "Being Alive", "Pretty Women", Nathan Lane's mash up, "No One Is Alone", "Liasons" and "Send In The Clowns." It was also nice to hear Julie Andrews' voice and to hear her sing, even on tape.

My absolute favorite was "Pretty Women." I was dissapointed right away because Jacoby and Cerveris were singing it and I knew Len was there, but then he walked out mid-song and joined right in. Though obviously not what it used to be, he was still amazing and reaffirms that he is my favorite Sweeney.

I do think though that there was a huge opportunity wasted in not having Len and Angela sing together alone from Sweeney. Though the songs are vocally demanding, I think if Angela can handle Liasons, she probably could have handled "A Little Priest."

I'll probably post more thoughts as I continue to think of them...haha
