Not true. I mean, it depends on how your director is casting the show but when I was in Follies, I was 17 and I played young Vanessa. Heck, the girl who played young Sally was only 18 and young Ben and Buddy were 19.

That's true... but with UCLA, LMU, SMC, and USC and lots of young, struggling actors, I'm sure they'll have no problem finding talented 20-somethings... perhaps if I lived in the middle of nowhere.

True... But I think if you're good enough, they wouldn't rule you out just because you were a little bit younger. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.... but Sarasota, FL (where I'm from) has a loooooooooot of talented people.

I was in Follies roughly this time last year. I didn't get the role I went for sadly (which was young Ben), but I did have the fun role of playing Kevin. Or as someone described him to me as the "man whore waiter".
It is a great powerful show. (sadly my friends who aren't into musicals who came to see it and support me, hated it! Thats mainly because the ending is confusing with its mad crazy dream inspired part where it shows Ben's madness/confusion)
But it was a great show, and our company received a "NODA award of excellence" for it.

You mean the "Loveland" sequence? The most important part of the production?

 FOLLIES
Follies is possibly the greatest musical ever written, as long as you stick with the original book and none of the later versions, but does it really justify the need for a board? For all the professed Follies love in this thread, there are far too few Follies related topics on the "Simply Sondheim" board as a whole to justify a dedicated board.
