Money In The Bank 2012 On The Road To 15 July 2012
Basically, Wilfred (the dog) is a character right out of ancient mythology: the trickster - your fairy, the leprechaun, the fool, the raven, and the joker-god. The job of this trickster, which appears in almost every culture, is just to set up chaos, to subvert the social norms and offend the particular sacred.
But the trickster seriously isn't an evil being. He brings total confusion, but from that confusion, something positive always arises - and that's exactly what happens right here.
So what is Wilfred's accurate agenda? On one hand, he's a dog - your beer-guzzling, cigarette-smoking overgrown frat boy of a dog, to be sure, but a dog. He likes to hump females, dig holes, and chase balls, and he turns around three times before sitting down (to be able to smoke a bong).
But there are much larger forces at work here, something the writers clearly have a very firm and satisfying tackle on.
Elijah Wood is basically fantastic, an exasperated Everyman, in probably the more challenging role - the instantly man to Gann's Wilfred. And Wood is clearly game to acquire his character do most jobs.
