Post The Nightingale at La Jolla
So guys. You set a musical in China, use Chinese motifs, art, and historical figures in it, and then act surprised when people are annoyed at the lack of Asian people in your cast.

I was actually looking forward to what I thought was going to be a sweet musical with a lot of Asian actors in it, that wasn't necessarily centred around race. Too often musicals with Asian characters focus on race relations, which limits what Asian actors are allowed to do.

It seems to be that Sheik and co's rationale behind not casting more than one Asian actor in The Nightingale was because the show didn't revolve around race, even though it is set in Ancient China. Even in a show set in Asia, the Asian guy/girl has been relegated once again to mere tokenism. Good job La Jolla.

So I'm personally upset.
