Post She Loves Me changed into You've Got Mail?
As you may or may not know, She Loves Me is the musical version of the original story of You've Got Mail.
I think it would be super cool if somebody updated it into an email thing instead of writing letters and it would be more like You've Got Mail. Anybody heard of doing that??

no. that'd be cool. but honestly i like that it is old fashioned and interesting..and i love writing letters. there is something romantic about getting a letter that has been sent to you in the mail :)

they could just make "you've got mail" the musical! haha.

Actually, it would be stupid and clunky. It's not very dramatic to have people typing out their hearts out on a monitor on stage. The story would also lose all its charm; plus the fact that the Bock and Harnick estates hold the rights to a musicalization for probably another 5 years. Usually -- for 50 years.

Now that you say it - you could put the typing up on a screen over the stage. Sure, the letter writing is old fashioned and romantic, but the email is much more modern and fun that a movie is based on it!

"You've got Mail" was nowhere near as good as the original film "The Shop Around the Corner" with Jimmy Stewart anyway. The great Ernst Lubitsch made one of his many fine films.

The score of "She Loves Me" is truly great by both men, especialy Bock who wrote some of his finest music.

All of the charm from both the original film and the musical would be lost.

Didn't they do something like that with the London revival of ALW's Song and Dance? I can't remember the exact details, but I remember e-mails...

its 50 years PLUS the authors lifetime.... bock and harnick are still alive. plus they could leave the rights to a trust so tyhey never go out of copyright.
