Post OT: Do you become hopping mad when a family home is sold?
Dear Musicals.Net Fans,

Do you think that it's normal for someone to feel hopping mad, and I mean absolutely, unequivocally FURIOUS, when a family home is sold, because it cannot be kept in the family?

My great aunt died during the early 2000s, and I was FURIOUS about the very THOUGHT of some other family moving in. My great aunt had lived in that house for YEARS!

My grandmother is now planning to sell the house in which I was born, and, even though I haven't bothered to get enough money to buy it for myself, I STILL feel FURIOUS at the THOUGHT of some other family getting what is essentially "my" house!

Someday, Grandma's house will have to be sold, too, and, once again, I'll be hopping mad!

Am I totally irrational, or has anybody else here ever felt that way?

Thanks in advance for your replies.
8-)

I never felt mad, maybe more lamenting than anything else. But no matter what, any house I've lived in will always feel like my home even if I'm not actually living in it anymore.

Since you asked... yes, it's irrational. Unless your family was the original owner, did you feel guilty for buying it in the first place? It's a place to hang your hat, so to speak, and where the people are is far more important. That said. nostalgia is natural, but you didn't ask if it was normal or understandable, but rational or not. No, it's not rational.

It's not frustration I feel, but rather an overwhelming amount of guilt and sadness when that happens. I was living in this house which was inherited by my grandmom for her mom, and we had to sell it so we could move to a better house. When you think of it, it's actually for the best, but the memories that happened there can never be replaced.

It used to be that houses were homes synonymous with the family living in it. A part of a community that would be passed down.

I guess it depends on said community.
