OT: Is the image of the "Madonna" mother overrated?

Is the image of the American "Madonna" overrated?
Totally! Pregnancy and motherhood SHOULD be about how WELL a woman raises her children, and NOT about the fact that the mother is simply able to conceive and raise a child! 100%  100%  [ 1 ]
Maybe. 0%  0%  [ 0 ]
No, and I hope/ I am certain that it will never come to that. 0%  0%  [ 0 ]
No. Anybody who is able to conceive IS a Goddess, and she should never be contradicted. 0%  0%  [ 0 ]

Post OT: Is the image of the "Madonna" mother overrated?
Dear Musicals.Net Posters,

Is the stereotypical image of the American "Madonna" mother overrated? In MY opinion, this stereotype is of "the perfect/ natural American mother," who is elevated to an almost religious, Madonna-type status within this country, to the point that people are continually making statements like, "She's a NATURAL for motherhood,", "She has that PERFECT mothering instinct...EVERY TIME!", and "Oh, she just looks like a NATURAL with little [fill in name of her child]" IS overrated.

What upsets ME about this stereotype within America is the fact that it blanket-covers ALL American women, INCLUDING those women who don't even DESERVE it! Yes, such women are capable of having children, and yes, they are raising them, but they are ONLY kind to their own children, while treating everyone ELSE like total dirt. For all we know, these very women may well be lushes, drug addicts, etc., and they MAY even be teaching their children to treat everybody else in the same way that THEY treat everybody else. ICK!

So, is America content to push, push, push the image of "The American Madonna", to the point where the American people IGNORE the more IMPORTANT idea of actually raising a child really well, in favor of worshiping an IMAGE? I guess that I just don't enjoy watching the concept of parenthood become a socially fetishized commodity (Ie: The famous craze of expectant fathers curling up in a fetal position, with their heads against the pregnant bellies of their wives, in preparation for degradingly fetishized photos that reduce the wives to "Expectant Madonna" statues, and the men to "Pregnancy-Worshipping Slaves")

Well, thanks in advance for your replies.
