Dear Padroni,

I've NEVER heard that EITHER of those songs were "overdone" at auditions. I've only ever been to one audition, but I'VE always heard that songs like "Defying Gravity" were the "overdone" ones.

I think that everything depends upon which role you're trying out for. I'm suspecting that the "Camelot" song is more than likely the MOST "overdone" song of the two...

Thanks in advance for your reply.

It's not what you sing so much as how you sing it. If you sing a song the exact same way that the auditors saw 3 other people that day, then yes, it will come off as overdone. But a song can never be overdone if you put your fresh stamp on it.

In a recent audition for The Addams Family, I saw a little girl come in and do "Tomorrow" from Annie. Probably the most overdone song of all time, right? But she sang it creepily, just like Wednesday would. And it worked perfectly. She got the role.

I think, what you sing doesn't matter as much as how you executed it. However, there are some casting calls which also prefers a certain type of song/genre, but really, all you have to do is to give them a good audition, sing/dance/act your heart out!
