Post Musicals with small casts
I'm looking to direct my first musical but I figure for my first show a smaller cast would be better (say, ten people being the cutoff). So, let me hear your suggestions.

Some excellent small-cast musicals:

The Last Five Years: 1m, 1f
Little Shop of Horrors: 4m, 4f, 1 puppetteer
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee: 5m, 4f
Avenue Q: 4m, 5f

Each of the last three can easily stretch a little for 1-2 more if desired, but are written for (or were originally done by) what I listed.

Nunsense-There are several renditions of the show including an all male version- Nunsense A-mens- (5F or 5M), I recently saw an audition notice for a gender neutral cast

Ruthless! the Musical (6F, or 5F 1M, there are also a few parts which are doubled, but can be split to increase the cast size to 8)

You're a Good Man Charlie Brown (4M, 3F although sometimes Snoopy has been played by a female)

Parade can also be performed with as few as, what, eleven actors (7M, 4F)? Maybe twelve (5F?)?

Better hope the guy who have doubling Newt Lee and Jim Conley has a heck of a range, though.

Gutenburg! The Musical is just two men playing all the parts. It's also a lot of fun, and it only requires a piano.

I know Ordinary Days is a song cycle can be done with two boys and two girls minimum and you could probably produce I love you because with 6 people. I've seen them both and in the right setting they're both quite quirky musicals. I'd lean more towards I love you because. :)
