Post 'Cult Musicals'
I just got a clue about the season's closing production for a local community theater. It's a cult musical and it's a regional premiere. Now, the two obvious choices would be Rocky Horror Show and Tommy, but technically there have been numorous productions of those shows in my state already. So, what else would be considered a 'cult musical'? This company has an eye for the obscure, so no suggestion is too silly!

Carrie or Side Show could be considered cult musicals. They both have a dedicated and small fanbase, and they both have an elevated so bad it's good factor. And they seem to be favourites for community theatres, at least where I am...

Could it be that they're a musicalization of somethng else that's considered a cult favourite in its own medium?

I'm not sure anyone's "allowed" to do those shows. Team Starkid flat-out states on their website that you can't do A Very Potter Musical, and the director of our production of Dr. Horrible has said that they aren't allowing other people to do productions, which is part of the reason we can't add any more performances.

A theatre troupe in my area recently did Dr Horrible with permission, though. Maybe they're actually trying to develop it into a licensible musical now and putting a hiatus on any more amateur productions.

EDIT- According to the sitethey're not reviewing any more requests. D: they say they have plans of their own.

All right, totally derailing this thread. Sorry, carry on.

There's such a thing as Barbarella the musical, but that's almost as bad as the original film, so... Forbidden Planet, maybe?

Some of the shows mentioned in this thread are not available for production at present. Has the production been announced yet?
