I'm very excited to hear this. I've been waiting for this movie to be made into a stage show. I can personally confirm that Patrick Page is involved as well.

Because it'll make money?

And it won't be too much of a jump from screen to stage. It's basically a stage musical already. I mean, it's Ahrens and Flaherty, LMAO. This isn't Tarzan we're talking about.

Yeah but I'm one of 5 people who really hates the movie.

I'm a little surprised they're doing it, because the real Anastasia is now known to have died with her family. The great mystery doesn't exist anymore. But I suppose the movie was always a fantasy, never a history lesson to begin with, and a stage adaptation will certainly have nostalgic appeal. I loved the movie the first time I saw it, less so with repeated viewings, but I still adore the score.

BTW, I just found this link posted on IMDB.com's "Les Mis" message board: http://broadwayworld.com/article/Aaron- ... i-20120628.

Aaron Tviet as Dimitri... intriguing! :) I had assumed Aaron Lazar would be Dimitri, but now that I think about it, he's probably too old. I wonder who he'll be playing, then? Are they making Vladimir hotter and sexier than in the movie? Or will he really play against type and be Rasputin?? Or Bartok??

I'm one of them too. Anastasia is like the worst cartoon I ever saw. Rasputin actually has a number with singing cockroaches! *cringe* And while I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with taking artistic license with history, they're just pushing it too much. To say that she lived and that the entire Russian Revolution was caused by a headless sorceror and a talking bat is kind of like saying Anne Frank went on vacation.

Because it's geared towards KIDS! If you just told the straight story, it would be boring and maybe even a little too scary. The comedic aspects of Rasputin as well as his sidekick were added to make it more bearable for kids to sit through. You're wasting a lot of energy defending the historical accuracy. I would only accept your gripes if you were a Russian native or a direct descendant of the Romanovs. And I'm guessing you're neither.

I get that it's a kids movie, but if they really feel they have to sanitize it that much then they should just adapt a different story. Besides, I don't even think that the changes were that clever or charming. They made Rasputin like the lamest bad guy ever.

Oh and the songs are really chintzy.

The movie is one of my guilty pleasures.

I'm actually quite excited for this. "Journey to the Past" is a great song.

My impression is...it's about time!

I think the movie is pretty good. and it has some really great songs. "Journey to the Past" was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. "Once Upon a December" is another good one and should have been nominated too. The movie's songs should be solid anchors for the show. I just hope the added songs can hang with the original set.

It's a Fox movie but I'd consider a joint venture with Disney Theatrical Production. It'll be similar to "Beauty and the Beast" and Disney did a great job with that. But whoever is ultimately behind it, I hope they don't screw it up like the stage version of "Mary Poppins".

Hello Pounce,

Are you talking about the movie "Journey to the Past"? How do you know that it is a joint venture? I believe it was exclusively made by Fox. Am I wrong? Thanks for your response.
