Re: OT: If you could create total gender equality
Despite my joking around, I find this post disturbing.
While I certainly appreciate the differences in gender and the behaviours associated, I am reminded of suffrage and the civil rights movement (in which women are a part of)
It's so easy to forget how far women have come along in matters of equality. There's equality and then there's equality. The differences should be complementary, something that makes up a whole.
In many countries you wouldn't receive "equality." You wouldn't even be allowed a computer if you're a woman.
As Lt. Malalai Kakar
(high profile policewoman in Afghanistan) once said after arresting a man who repeatedly stabbed his wife, (she was 15), for disobeying him. Kakar said, when asked what would happen to the husband. “Nothing. Men are kings here.”
Kakar was later murdered for being an uppity woman.
Yes, I'm rambling.
