Re: Favourite moments in musical theatre
I feel like I'd need a year of pondering to come up with my favorite moments, but I just wanted to comment and tell you, Nick, that I finally listened to The Drowsy Chaperone last night, and when I heard the part you quoted, from the end, it made me smile.
I liked it, I'd love to see it on stage. I know BroadwayBeast/Shane was in it semi-recently as Robert Martin, and after listening to it, I can totally picture it. Sad I missed it, now.
A few moments I can think of quickly-
-The finale of Show Boat (and many other things in the show)
-The finale of The Civil War
-The Marimba in "If Prayin' Were Horses" from The Civil War
and the song/scene in general. That musical as a whole is not perfect, but it has so many great pieces, songs, quotes-Oh Be Joyful, the nurse's monologue, Ain't I a Woman?, Father, How Long?, How Many Devils, The Honor of Your Name. I kind of miss this show.
-"Trouble" from The Music Man. So brilliant. And the American Pie cheesy ending when harold is in cuffs and directs the band... and they sound horrible but the parents love it.
- The "Now/Later/Soon" trio from ALNM
- Even though I've never seen the show, I love the "Poor Child" quartet from (Lippa's) The Wild Party.
- Seasons of Love, LaVie Boheme, Will I, and the Finale of Rent.
