Heyo, first Random Fact post of 2014. ;)

I love how every post on here starts out with "Wow it's been a while." Welp, once again, it's been a while but it's nice to see this place is still chugging along. :)

For me, recently I've been doing pretty well as far as theatre goes. I did Cabaret in July, Falsettos in October (so much love for that show and production), and I'm going to be a part of a staged reading of a new work in March at my school. Can't wait!

Hope everyone here had a great holiday, and happy new year!

ok...It's cold. And windy.

Got about 8 inches of snow last Thursday night. Then it dropped to about 9 degrees. Then the temperature hit 40 Sunday and the snow began melting. Hit 60 degrees yesterday morning then plunged back to 5 degrees at night.

...and it might hit 60 degrees during the weekend. :wtf:

I'm confused.

Hi.

Wow, haven't been by in quite some time. Erm...I'm no longer single.

And I plan on starting a T-shirt business.

One day I may try getting into theater again...

Welp, that's about it in my world! (I am a boring person).

Wait, so Marry Me a Little is in the key of B Major? Then why is it in B-flat in the Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology?

I'm going with "Because 2 flats is easier to sight-read than 5 sharps."

It's kinda incongruous. The SMTA kinda advertises that it's got stuff in the original key, and sometimes it doesn't, but that's usually because of removing verses where key changes happen ("Private Conversation," for example), or because it's a chorus number adapted for solo ("A Secretary is Not a Toy"). I dunno. I guess I'm not complaining, though, 'cause I can actually sing "Marry Me a Little" in B-flat and not in B.

Less likely, but possible... I know "Epiphany" in Sweeney Todd is in the score in two different keys, one or two semitones apart. Or, could have been transposed for a performer in particular?

That's certainly possible. I think "Marry Me a Little" was originally put back into the show for the 1995 Broadway revival, and Boyd Gaines had a lower voice than Bobby usually is, so most of his stuff was moved down a bit - "Being Alive" was transposed down a major third, if I'm not mistaken.

So if Boyd Gaines sang Marry Me a Little it in the key of B-flat, that'd explain it.

I was looking for a song to audition for for my college production of Rent and one of the first results was MDN. Talk about a rush of Nostalgia. I came on here when I was about 12 or 13, now I'm 20 and I'm in my junior year of college.

Seeing how dead this place is made me really damn sad though. Like that feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you come back from college to see your high school friends, and you try to pretend that everything is the same, but it isn't and you have nothing to talk about anymore. The moment has died and now all that is left is memories. It's that realization that something has moved from the present and has permanently moved to the past.

I can't imagine what has gone on in all of your lives. Would be great to get an update.

Not gonna lie, I miss this place.

Brief update, for anyone who still remembers me: I'm graduating in July with a degree in theatre. I just closed a production of Spring Awakening (still a show I hate, don'tworry  ), in which I was Georg. That came after Parade, performed 100 years after the real-life lynching of Leo Frank, in Marietta, Georgia, very close to the actual lynching site. I played Leo Frank, which was an incredible experience. It's the closest thing to a dream role I have right now, and getting to do it in that context was amazing. I've got a yearlong apprenticeship at a local theatre company beginning in May, and I'm really excited to begin this new chapter in life.

Oh also, I just wrapped up presenting some undergraduate research in the vein of musical theatre dramaturgy at the National Conference of Undergrad Research in Asheville, North Carolina, about two weeks ago, so that was a party. :)

Keep chuggin' along, MdN.

-Elliott
