Controversial MT Moments: Kids and Adults
Dear Musicals.Net Posters,
If you were ever involved with any musical theatre production, was there ever a moment during any of the musicals with which you were involved wherein any amount of discomfort occurred between a child actor and an adult actor? That is to say, did any musical ever include an uncomfortable scene between a child actor and an adult actor? How was the uncomfortable scene dealt with? Did the child actor's mother or father ever insist that the child actor be taken out of the production, due to said scene? Did the director choose to cast a young-looking adult actor in place of a child actor in the first place?
I'm curious about the aforementioned issue because I know that some Hollywood movies contain adult/ child scenes that are generally uncomfortable/ discomforting, and I'm wondering just how much adult/ child storyline controversy Broadway producers have been able to get away with throughout the years, and weather or not anything has ever been done to limit "The ICK Factor" of controversial musicals, scenes, songs, etc.
I know for certain that such musicals as "Gigi", the Lolita musical, and perhaps even "Sweeney Todd" are apt to cause some stage parents to have conservative cows, with regards to their reluctance to allow THEIR children to be in such musicals, and I have sometimes wondered if certain Alice in Wonderland musicals might tend to illicit negative reactions from some people, due to Lewis Carroll's supposedly dubious relationship with Alice.
Thank you in advance for your replies.
