Not particularly. Go spend some time with the music and lyrics and you'll soon see it for yourself.

Back to the game: Bells Are Ringing.

Candide: The Scottish National Opera Cast Recording. If there ever was a cast recording made that is completely able to turn one off of a show, then this is it. It is awful from start to finish.

Its rickety book, the way the lead ins to the songs stab out at you. alot of Sondheim's lyrics do not hold up especially in light of his later talent. the dated feeling of the dialouge.

I think that there are better shows that get the same points that Celebration tries to make across. Definately one of the weakest efforts by Jones and Schmidt.

I can't specify why I don't like 'Liasons' or 'It Would Have Been Wonderful', so I'll settle with the last word in 'You Must Meet My Wife'. "I must meet your wife, yessssssssssssss, Iiiiiiii, mmmmmm(you think they're gonna say might)ust".

SO JARRING THAT IT DOESN'T RHYME. :wtf:

Miss Saigon!

Someone butcher it!

All the men are tenors. They try to make the male lead is too sympathetic in comparison to the opera it's based on. Their music isn't as good as Puccini's. All the men are tenors. Who cares about the helicopter? The best character in the show is largely unnecessary for the plot to function. All the men are tenors. It's not nearly as good as Les Miserables. All the men are tenors. That other guy doesn't get any character traits until the second act. All the men are tenors.

Oooookaay, howabout...

*cough, "wife" and "might" don't rhyme, cough*

*cough cough*
FREDERICK: Her reticence, her apprehension--
DESIREE: Her crust--
(No! Yes! No! Frederick!)
FREDERICK: You must meet my wife.
DESIREE: Let me get my hat and my knife!
FREDERICK: What was that?
DESIREE: I must meet your wife. Yes I must.
I dunno, that looks like a rhyme scheme to me. :|

On the Twentieth Century
It's a very fun show, but some of the lyrics can be reeeeally sort of pitiful. They're sort of banal, actually.

New show: In the Heights

The homages to musicals such as Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, and Rent often become just plain borrowing for me.

There's such an extreme focus on dance ability that - particularly in the case of the boys playing Billy - a lot of other skills get neglected, making it a wonderful dance experience, but not an all-around satisfying theatrical experience.
