Post Audition Song For Maria
My university is putting on "West Side Story" this Spring and I am looking for a Maria audition song that shows emotion (either joyous or dramatic, since Maria has both) and range and that isn't horrendously overdone.

Also, cold-reading wise, does anyone have any idea what scene a director will most likely use for a Maria audition?

Song- Something obviously soprano. Maybe...Music Man? Camelot? One of the "older", "classic" musicals.

What about "I Remember" or "Take me to the World" from Evening Primrose, music and lyrics by Steven Sondheim.

Pick something that shows off your high notes. The director needs to know that you have a solid upper register.

I'd recommend "Love, Let Me Sing You" from Bernarda Alba. The show itself came out only a few years ago, but it has a very traditional-sounding score. The show is about a tyrannical mother who keeps her young daughters shut away and isolated from men.

"Love, Let Me Sing You" fits Maria like a glove, vocally and character wise---oh, and it's virtually unheard of, so you won't have to worry about doing something overdone.

I have the sheet music for it if you want.

You better hope that an admin doesn't find that.
