Post WEST SIDE STORY revival casting
Playbill has given the first hints of casting information for the revival of West Side Story, reporting that Matt Cavenaugh has been offered role of Tony.

Cavenaugh has appeared in Urban Cowboy, Grey Gardens and A Catered Affair.

Anyone else heard any casting rumours yet?

I've only heard of two roles having been cast so far.

Broadwayworld.com posted a link in Spanish stating that Argentinian actress Josefina Scaglione has been cast as Maria.

And the Chicago Tribune reports Greg Vinkler has been cast as Doc.

Post WEST SIDE STORY CAST announced
And of course the rest of the cast has now been officially announced, on Playbill (and I'm sure in many other places):

Andrew Gans wrote:
Karen Olivo (In the Heights) as Anita, Cody Green (Movin' Out) as Riff and George Akram (Stuck on You) as Bernardo. Twenty-one-year-old Argentinean actress Josefina Scaglione, who created the role of Amber Von Tussle in the Argentinean production of Hairspray, will make her Broadway debut as Maria.

The production... will also feature Steve Bassett as Lt. Schrank, Kyle Brenn as Boy Soprano, Joshua Buscher as Diesel, Mike Cannon as Snowboy, Kyle Coffman as A-Rab, Joey Haro as Chino, Eric Hatch as Big Deal, Curtis Holbrook as Action, Michael Mastro as Glad Hand, Danielle Polanco as Consuela, Jennifer Sanchez as Rosalia, Lee Sellars as Krupke, Tro Shaw as Anybodys, Ryan Steele as Baby John and Greg Vinkler as Doc along with Madeline Cintron, Lindsay Dunn, Matthew Hydzik, Marina Lazzaretto, Chase Madigan, Kaitlin Mesh, Pamela Otterson, Sam Rogers and Amy Ryerson as The Jets and Isaac Calpito, Haley Carlucci, Peter John Chursin, Yurel Echezaretta, Manuel Herrera, Yanira Marin, Mileyka Mateo, Kat Nejat, Christian Elán Ortiz, Michael Rosen, Manuel Santos, Michaeljon Slinger and Tanairi Sade Vazquez as The Sharks.

There are pictures up of the leads and they're a pretty good looking bunch!

Post WEST SIDE STORY --> New Tony
About three weeks ago, Michael Riedel wrote an article about Arthur Laurents turning on Matt Cavenaugh, making him the scapegoat for the cast's apparently generally heavy absenteeism:

Laurents' fingerprints are all over the knife in his back, I'm told. "Arthur turned on him," one source says. "And once Arthur turns on you, it's over. There is nothing you can do."

It's a strange twist, since Laurents was Cavenaugh's protector last spring.... Until a few weeks ago, when Laurents began complaining that Cavenaugh was too old for the role and that his acting wasn't up to snuff, sources say. Cavenaugh recently married actress Jenny Powers, and a source jokes that this was "Arthur's wedding present."

Cavenaugh's out. His replacement has yet to be announced. But here's some advice to the next Tony: Don't miss any performances, don't get old, and don't get married.

Well, his replacement has been announced now: it's Matthew Hydzik. And Jeremy Jordan will play Tony on Wednesday evenings and Sunday matinées.
