I want to audition for a regional production of West Side Story...actually they do general auditions and I REALLY want to do The Wizard of Oz...but West Side Story would eb amazing as well :) anyway I am quite young (a teen..but I look amture) so I was wondering what roles I could possibly get (they will probably cast the leads older) I'm a good dancer, soprano, and with makeup could look puerto rican.......also what would be an age appropraite song? (to audition for The Wizard of Oz and Joseph and the Amazign Technicolor Dreamcoat as well) thanks!

Exactly how old are you? ;)
"In my teens" could be anything between 13 and 17 - which would make quite a difference..... If it's a regional production, then they will probably cast Anita as someone older, but seeing that Maria practically is in her late teens, you might stand a chance there.....

Here's a list of all the characters and a suggested age range: http://www.stageagent.com/shows.php?id=697

Hope that helps... :)

I will be 16 at the audition/show but I look about 18 or 19 :D thanks for the feedback and the link.........I'm thinking of just going for it as ensemble/dancer I really want to be in the wizard of oz and it's an audition for all three shows.

since it's a general audition, just pick your BEST songs to sing..... you know, your "it" songs

I would say that since you're older (looking) go for Anita and sing a good saprano song. She is a high saprano and in order to be her you have to have the voice.

Good luck. Oh, stick with Sondheim or Leonard Bernstein. Just because LF composed it and Sondheim wrote the lyrics. AND if you can sing Sondheim you can sing anything as he is ONE of the MOST DIFFICULT composers of musical theatre.

Now, Go to it!

Maria is a high soprano. Anita is a low mezzo, if not an alto.

If they have a pianist, don't sing Sondheim. Sondheim is murder to sightread (for the accompanist).
