Does anyone know were to get any of the verisons on-line? Besides eBay because I don't want to battle for the items.

And what verison do you recommend to buy.

Thanks, Mumsy.... :P

ok - there's literally hundreds of copies of the Original London cast recording on Ebay.

This is the old release of the Original London Cast - 1984 -

Broadway "Concept" album - 1987 - VERY 1980s! Fun, but nowhere close to a representation of the show.

The "new" London recording - 1992. I personally can't stand this one.

But this is the one I'd recommend investing in -

That's the new release of the 1984 London recording. It's shinier than the older release, and the sound has been re-mastered. It's by no means a complete recording - it's about 2/3 of the stage show, but it's the best English language recording, and it's how Starlight Express was originally conceived (more or less!). The show has been tinkered about with so much that very little of that production relates to the recent US or the current UK tours.

The only other English language recording is the 1987 Japan/Australia cast recording, which is absolutely charming, and my favourite! But very hard to find. There's four CDs put out by the German production- a 1988 Concept Album very like the Broadway Concept (apart from the language), then the magnificent 1989 Double CD complete recording, and a 1991 Highlights recording, all with different casts. Then recently, err, 2003? They brought out a "New Songs" EP, with the 5 numbers they'd just added to the show. All in German, of course.

There ya go, everything you never needed to know about Starlight Express recordings, and then some!!! :P
