Our movie will be a tougher, more realistic retelling of the same classic story of two very different people whose love for each other transcends their enormous cultural differences. We think there’s a whole new audience just waiting to fall in love with its magical score, epic romance and exotic locale.

Sounds interesting.

A third one? 8O

That's something I never expected, but I'll be interested to see how it turns out. Are there any other musicals out there with three film versions (theatrical or TV)?

People want Reba...

Vanessa20: I'm not sure. The thought of a Carousel remake has been kicked around for a year or so, but that would be the first one. Annie's been made into two movies, but there's no talk of a third right now (thank God). I can't think of any musical with three film adaptations--unless you count commercially released performances, because then Sweeney Todd would count: the two performances (1980s w/ Lansbury, 2000s w/ LuPone) and the film.

JA: It'd be interesting to see if Reba's in it this go around. I don't get the hate for her Nellie. It's the weakest of the three on the recordings (Martin, McEntire, O'Hara), but she's still perfectly fine.
I could totally see Matthew Morrison getting the role of Lt. Cable in the film, since he's riding on the popularity of Glee right now.

Let's just hope this film is actually good. The 1958 film is a trainwreck, imo, and the TV one isn't any different.

No, but the 2001 LA Concert was.

Oh yes, that makes sense. Guess I was wishfully thinking!
