Sound of Music at Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris
Hi !
Did anyone saw the Paris production that was in Théâtre du Câtelet in december 2009 and 2011 ? I saw it on christmas eve and was blown away since I knew the musical only by the quite namby-pamby movie with Julie Andrews.
Here is the trailer of it :
Do Ré Mi :
The Lonely Goatherd :
The cast was perfect, the production was gorgeous, the musical direction very good with a full sized symphonic orchestra in the pit and not just a downsized 20-musicians orchestra. The last scene at the festival was breathtaking and quite scary when nazis appeared in the theatre...
What do you think ?

It's so nice to have a Liesl who doesn't sound like Charmian Carr for once. As much as I love the movie, that particular kind of singing voice gets on my nerves. So bravo to whoever plays her here.
The set looks awesome, by the way. I'm in absolute adoration of its perspective and possibilities for staging.

Yes you're right : Rebecca Bottone as Liesl was absolutely charming and very convincing, even if she is definitely NOT 16 ! (http://www.askonasholt.co.uk/artists/si ... ca-bottone) James McOran-Campbell as Rolf was also very good !
I was very impressed by Lisa Milne as Mother Abbess. She brought tears to a large part of the audience for "Climb every Mountain" (http://www.askonasholt.co.uk/artists/si ... lisa-milne) When lights came back for the intermission, lots of people were hiding their tears !
Nicholas Garrett and Christine Arand as Max Detweiler and Elsa Schraeder were good, but not as convincing as the rest of the cast to me.
Katherine Manley as Maria and William Dazeley as Captain Von Trapp were perfect to me !
The productions at Théâtre du Châtelet are becoming a reference in Paris !
For those interested, some interviews and rehearsals :
