I'd have to say that I like the broadway show better, they made some characters have a lot more personalitity and some better songs were added. I also like how they switched "Favorite Things" and "The Lonely Goatherd"

I haven't seen the broadway show but assuming it's the same as the show I was in I prefer the film as a whole thing. [Though as a nun it would be pretty dull if that was all they did in the show.]

Hard decision, I like both, both had points that I enjoyed.

Movie:

I did enjoy the Lonely Goatherd and My Favorite Things better. I hated how they took out Max's and The Baroness' two songs We'll Make Our Love Survive and Nothing Else as Wonderful. I think Julie Andrews look more the part then did Mary Martin. Something Good, okay. Confidence, okay.

Broadway:

Had Max's and Baroness' songs. Didn't like how Doe Ray Me was sang right when they arrived.

My opinion is I like both, but I do like live stuff better . . . no . . . I like both the same.

i grew up on the movie and have only seen one stage version, it was good, but its already been said that the way the songs are in a different order and stuff. Because i know the movie obh i had difficulty working out what was going on in the stage version. I kept thinking they had gone in to the wrong song by mistake. And of course the movie has Julie Andrews...

It's a hard choice but i'd have to say the movie. Honestly I think the original play was probably amazing and that got alot of publcity, but rwhat eally made the Sound of Music famous was really the movie. That is what always seems to come to mind to people when they think of SOM. The movie really captured the story.

apart from the cutting of the baroness's songs, I agree with you all. the movie was better. I was a nun in a production (sister margaretta, if you're interested) and the placement of do-re-mi and my favorite things(having the mother superior sing it) just didn't work for me.

I like the movie best. JA and CP are two of my favorite actors. I saw the remake on Bway once with Rebecca.... Rebecca... what was her name? Marion in The Music Man revivial.... It was good, but just not as heartwarming as the film.

i am not a big fan of either..but Max and Elsa's numbers are the only thing that helps the show rise above schmaltz...i can even sit through the film version.
