they are bishop dibson's 2 chinese converts..when the bisahop gets arrested instead of moonface martin (who is posing as a minister) the captain assumes luke and john are travelling with moonface as his converts and saddles moon with the pair when they are caught gambling in 3rd class.

when Moon and Billy are thrown into the brig with them they play strip poker and take luke and jon's clothes..disguisingthemselves so they can get out in a few hours and stop Evelyn and Hope's wedding.

Luke and John.. They're the chinese guys, right?

When we did the show, we changed them to mexican, (because we didn't want to offend any asians in the audience) and it was hilarious.

but its okay to offend the mexicans in the audience?

either way its not offensive..its fun. everything is parodied in Anything Goes.
besides mexicans wont work because a) who ever heard of mexican converts. b) you'd have to change the whole hysterical "Rice paddy" story.and the great plum tart line.

Yeh I didn't really think them being asian would offend the audience, but who knows..

What they ended up changing the story to was hilarious though..
Everybody loved the mexicans.

Um well I'm not entirely sure, as I always always changing costumes in that section, so I couldn't watch...

But when I get the dvd of the show soon, I'll post up and explain :)

Hilarious or not, the changes would surely have represented a violation of the performance rights...?

When I saw Anything Goes last March, Luke and John were show-stealers. They were these two short, geeky guys, and they were crazy.
