We're saying Evelyn like "Eev-il-lin". It works since Reno calls him "Evie" quite a few times.

but that's a very feminine approach to the name. He is a man. Pronouncing a man's name like a woman's is a bit that's not funny to anyone over the age of 16....maybe 20

Maybe we have it backward then. XD We did a student-written production earlier in the year with a girl "Eh-vel-lin", though we did use the nickname "Ee-vie"

Post Re: Lord Evelyn Oakleigh pronunciation
It's clearly supposed to be pronounced "EE-vu'lin".... Thus the reason the reporter calls him Edith. Thus the reason the photographer thinks he's saying his fiance's name when he says his. "Sir what's your name?"... "EE-vu-lin"... "Not her first name, your first name"...

If you pronounce it "eh" you're killing the point of those lines. They may not be hilarious, but they're there for a reason. When in doubt- read scripts... it helps. Or in this case you could watch the show on B'way and not one cast will ever pronounce it "Eh".

Sorry to be rude about it- just irks me when people don't get what is clearly set up in a script. From the first scene, even...

I'm playing Evelyn in a production now and for the first week of rehearsals I was the only one saying it properly. I was a little worried that the director wasn't going to correct everyone, but someone finally asked and they confirmed that I was saying it proper. EVE - LYN. Not EVEL - LYN
