 Re: Rent to Re-Open Off-Broadway!!!
Michael Greif will direct the show again so I'm pretty sure it won't be like the London's "Rent remixed" or the Hollywood Bowl production with the new orchestrations.

Rent can't stay dead. Just like Mimi.

I'm very anxious to see what new life is breathed into the show.

 Re: Rent to Re-Open Off-Broadway!!!
Does that mean that the rights won't be available for regional and community theatre? I don't know the "rules" as far as Broadway and Off-Broadway and all that...

Rights to both Rent and Rent: School Edition are available from MTI. They've been available for a while now. http://www.mtishows.com/show_detail.asp?showid=000281

 Re: Rent to Re-Open Off-Broadway!!!
It's really up to the individual powers-that-be in charge of each show. There aren't any specific rules for these things.

 Re: Rent to Re-Open Off-Broadway!!!
I know they're available now, but the rights to the Broadway version only became available after the show closed on Broadway however long ago. My question was whether or not the rights would become unavailable again to local theatres when it re-opened off-Broadway. My reason for asking is because getting a new job and moving to another state made me unable to participate in various local productions of the show, and I'm wondering if it will be a long while before I get the chance to do it again.

 Re: Rent to Re-Open Off-Broadway!!!
I love RENT as much as the next Renthead, and it would be great to see the show in New York, but I feel that reopening the show so soon is a mistake. I mean, let the people feel a little nostalgia before you bring it back, know what I mean?

 Re: Rent to Re-Open Off-Broadway!!!
Maybe Mimi will croak in this one?
It's being revived waaaay too soon. It will suffer the Les Mis revival syndrome in which eye rollage pretty much summed-up most people's reactions. Why not wait longer, for a time when it will be welcome?
I'm pretty sure no "new life" can "be breathed into the show." Unless they heavily rework it, but then it wouldn't be the same show.
However, in this case, tis a good thing!
