Is this a joke? #-o

Apparently he's one of Neil Patrick Harris' top choices. :| Let's just say I've lost quite a bit of respect for NPH.

He's not gritty enough for Roger.

And Vanessa Hudgens? She probably looks right but Mimi is supposed to have a raw voice... like she's smoked a thousand cigarettes..!

Hmmm... I'll wait to be proved wrong.

Sounds like Celebrity Showoff: RENT style.

Oh my.... at least it's not Zac Efron as Roger. That would be... ugh.

(Although, If he hadn't been in HSM, I probably would be a fangirl... he's not that bad outside of Disney....)

I completely agree with pittising_poyns. Both of them lack the edge that I associate with Rent.

Just remember, this is the Hollywood Bowl. Hollywood Bowl isn't a "real" production, it's essentially a three-day ALL-STAR event. They're not looking for gritty young penniless performers to get their starts. This is for top celebrity performers to do stage work without the extended commitment of Broadway. Of course it's gonna have unlikely people, but it's almost Hollywood community theater, as someone said on the other board.

^ True that. I hate that they think big name celebrities will draw more of a crowd than someone really talented that is right for the part. However, I may be wrong.

at about 7:20 he starts talking about Vanessa Hudgens as Mimi. It's kinda funny. He also talks about Glee if anyone's interested.

It is rather unfair to judge Vanessa Hudgens by her singing on her two albums and High School Musical, seeing it is all auto-tuned to make her sound like the youngsters want her! She might be a terrific singer for all we know, so please don't judge her yet, because she has so far never done any bad singing as far as I have heard (although she makes it hard for me to judge because of auto-tuning). Nevertheless we should all give her a chance!

I think the issue is not entirely her voice ...

And are you kidding? A huge all-star production will ALWAYS draw bigger crowds than an equally talented cast of up-and-comers who need their big break.

That's why it's a limited run. They're trying to go all out with this one.

Exciting casting? I'd say so! No mention of Maureen or Benny though... anyone heard?
EDIT: Come to think of it there's no mention of Mimi either so it still could be Hudgens. Psh.
