 Anyone know about Bertha?
My college did Pippin my freshman year. I wasn't in it, but I remember that the grandmother role was funny. I just got cast in that role and I know the song, but can't remember anything else about her. Please let me know if you know anything. Thanks!

She sings "No Time At All"
She's Pippin's grandmother
She's a little crazy, but makes some bad jokes.
originally played by Irene Ryan

There is one thing you have to remember about being Bertha. You've got to be the grandma, and that lady everybody loves at the same time who can make anybody laugh and can take control. You only dance with the Troupe guys and you ask the audience to sing along with you. You can to take control because you have to yell at everyone to stop singing and let you take the chorus line once by yourself at the end. Just have fun with the role, Bertha is a very fun role, even though she doesn't appear in a whole lot of scenes.

Her name is actually spelled with an e - Berthe - and she is on my "Must Play Now That I Am Old" list!! Love her!

Good luck, Robin! However, you'll now have to beat a bunch of men- Berthe has become a more Edna Turnbladt than Irene Ryan.
