I'm surprised that there have been no comments yet. Many people have depended on the tour to bring The Phantom of the Opera to a city near enough for them to afford. I first saw the show in a tour production. The music of the night isn't over, but it's getting harder to hear.

Most of the world is over Phantom, I think.

No I am not kidding about this!!! I mean this show sells out everywhere it goes and it had so signs of stoping and then ALW comes in and says "Your closed because of my new awesome sequal musical" Next thing you know Broadway will close it as well as Vegas and then London. Just for ALW to be sure that Love Never Dies will make money.....Well no matters what happens there will be no way that I will never ever see Love Never Dies, I have said this so many times but I will contunie to say that Love Never Dies will be the musical that killed musical theater and will kill career's of everyone who works at a theater!

It probably wasn't making enough to justify continuing.

Just found out about this from a YouTube comment on one of my Phantom videos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv-m7Feuv20

This is quite sad but also thrilling that they've chosen Los Angeles as its final stop. I'm sad to say that I am indeed "over" Phantom, but the show still holds great nostalgic value for me as it was the 2nd show I saw live on stage. I still remember the date too--25 March, 1992 @ 8 p.m. Ahmanson Theatre, front row, orchestra center.

I was just thinking about how Phantom will just keep going and going until people are literally sick of it or will close while still at the top. I'm glad it's the latter...for the tour, at least.

My nephew's obsession with the film and its soundtrack has waned but I'm sure he'll be pleased to know he will have a chance to see it again.

I do wonder why it's closing. I'm assuming it has something to do with Love Never Dies premiering this year but maybe it hasn't been selling well?

I sort of feel for Phans now. I remember being completely devastated when both the Les Mis original Broadway production and third national tour closing dates were announced. It really does mark the end of an era and the experience that goes with it is reduced forever to memories. Film fans can fire up the DVD or Blu-Ray and watch that favorite film, art fanatics can visit their favorite works at museums the world over. We theatre fans have to rely on an entire set of performers, producers, musicians, crews, and so on, in order to go back and revisit an old favorite the way we best remember it.

So long um, wandering OG. I will be at the Pantages come this fall, and will make sure to leave box five empty for you!

Btw, the L.A. Times article failed to mention that the show's 2nd national tour closed at the Pantages in L.A. back in 1998.

thanks for seeing my comment. that's kinda funny how all 3 tours have either opened or closed in CA,(although I don't quite get why they billed the First national tour as such since it only played in 2 cities

I guess you could call it the First national company as well.
