Why not? It's up there with Les Miz in popularity. Although, I think PotO has very difficult vocals which would be the biggest stumbling block for any local theater group and how to do the Phantom stuff without it looking ridiculous. Groups trying to perform CATS seem to have difficulty with choreography, makeup, and costumes.

Don't know how they determine when the time is right to license a show.

I think pulling off LES MIS is equally difficult then pulling phantom off. Of course there is the whole chandeleer thing to consider but I think that would be the toughest angle to look at. As for voices, They are dificult but I have seen a few theatre groups that have the voices for it. Of course it wouldnt be a show for every theatre.

That's why Les Mis shouldn't be a school edition either.

my school did les mis last year and we pulled it off amazingly.
the rights for POTO are supposed to come out within a year. and so, for next year, our music program is contemplating phantom, beauty and the beast, possibly chicago if our school board will allow it.

I just don't think high schooler's have the stamina to sing through this entire show. As is the difficulty with the Les Mis School Edition...particularly for the Valjean's and on occassion the Eponines (who most have a tendency to yell.)

I could very well see that being a problem with the amateur Phantoms and Christines, regardless of if they can actually hit the notes. After all those rehearsals and then 3 or 4 performances in a short time period young voices would be shot.

well as for les miz, when i did it last year, our cast obviously had lost our voices by the end of it all, but our valjean was amazing, eponine aswell..everyone was. and by our last show, yes, we were tired, but we did it. you'd be surprized at how advanced our highschool's performers are.

if we were to do phantom next year, our valjean would be phantom, javert would be raoul, etc etc. buttt i'm not at all saying that we'd be able to pull it off. we have two girls who i believe can hit that high E..after being extremely warmed up ofcourse!! haha..and the rest of the leads could be filled..butttt in terms of the rest of the cast, i love them, but to be honest..the majority of them aren't very good. they could, in no way, sing properly for such numbers as masquerade.

ANNNNYWAY, all i was saying was that the rights are coming out.

If you're losing your voices, its never good. Young voices should not be subjected to such vocal murder. The school I went to did Les Mis, everyone sounde amazing and they were very advanced, it was a performing arts oriented school, however our Fantine still ended up with nodes. Its never good to be so vocally tired you're losing your voice. That's just a result of either improper technique or vocal stress.

No. No. No. No. No.

After seeing what's on youtube...the world does not need more people thinking they can sing Christine's part.

Or Carlotta's part, for that matter.
