I'm not sure if any of you knew this, but Lorenz Hart was offered the job of lyricist for OKLAHOMA!, which he obviously turned down (and majorly regretted). My question is, would the show have been as successful if Hart was the lyricist?

No . Hart would have been as wrong for Oklahoma as Harrestien would be for Kiss Me Kate or Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

F. Scott Fitzgerald writing Tom Sawyer.
