Carey Mulligan to Star in My Fair Lady
By Kenneth Harvey
Twenty-four-year-old Academy-Award nominee, Carey Mulligan is set to star in a remake of My Fair Lady.
Emma Thompson, the actress who wrote the script for the film, revealed the casting decision at the premiere of the Nanny McPhee sequel, The Telegraph reported.
"I think Carey is set to play it, yes," Thompson told BBC Five Live, adding she would like Hugh Grant to play the role of Henry Higgins, the male lead.
"I love Hugh so I'd love him to do it," Thompson said. "He might want to, he might not want to, so we don't know yet. But hopefully we'll make it later this year."
Keira Knightley is said to have been attached to the film but is rumored to have pulled out.

This still doesn't seem set in stone yet, but I think Carey would be a brilliant Eliza (if she can sing that is, but she could act it out of the park). Her performance in "An Education" impressed me so much, she definitely is the Audrey Hepburn of our generation IMO. I'm still against the remake though. The film is already brilliant as it is.

I don't see the need for a remake, either. The original film is nearly flawless, and I'd be surprised if a new movie would make any money at all.

Hugh Grant does not even approach being worthy of this role. This reeks of Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett. There's one rule that's the same whether you're in Hollywood or the high school drama club: you suck if you always just cast your best friends.

Carey admitted herself that she's not a soprano...

There's no way in hell this is a successful venture. I don't care who you cast...it's a terrible idea. Not because of the original...but because there's really no market for it.
No profitable one at least.

okay ithink the remake is a BADDDD idea (i don't mean 'good' bad, i mean like 'Baddd' badd X) )
anywho, they should cast an unknown (at least not hollywood) actor/singer as Eliza, as dubbed singing NEVER works out. I think that Grant could be in it, but not as Higgins no way!
And in reference to the point about sopranos, i can sing the part really well, and i'm a mezzo so I'm totally kidding, but as long as the actress can pull off the high-G's without straining, and can act it, i think it'd be not too bad
I think Patrick Stuart would make a decent Alfie though
