Fabulous pics, I love all the Cosette ads. What's the easiest way for me to upload pictures onto this thread?

TinyPic or Imageshack.

Slightly off topic...but while we're on the foreign recordings...what is the best way to get a hold of a Spanish language recording...and which of the three casts is best?

The Madrid one is the only one with a legal recording.

I personally like the Buenos Aires cast the best, but Quique probably prefers the Mexican cast.

Scans from the Montréal souvenir brochure. (What, where did you think I got all my obscure trivia questions about that cast?) It was also unusual in that the commentary was printed in side-by-side French and English, and that some of the stuff printed in there referred specifically to that production (mostly relating to the French translation of the lyrics).

I'm really sorry these are so washed out--someday I'll re-do them with a better scanner. I think they're pretty rare; I've never seen them online, though the brochure comes up on ebay from time to time.

Cast:

Valjean: Robert Marien
Javert: Peter Zinko
Fantine: Louise Pitre
Eponine: Stéphanie Martin
Marius: Frayne McCarthy
Cosette: Martine Fugère
Thénardier: André Thérien
Mme Thénardier: Mireille Thibault

If anyone can give me more complete cast info (who is that Enjolras, anyway?) or a bootleg, I will love you forever and ever.

I have that picture too. That's not the OBC, it's the OLC! From left: Frances Ruffelle, Roger Allam, Rebecca Caine, Sue Jane Tanner, Colm Wilkinson, and Patti Lupone.

It's incredible, isn't it?

That's really embarrassing that I got that wrong. *Facepalm* It's so obvious now. Sue Jane Tanner just looked so much like Jennifer Butt when I glanced at it for a second. *Heavy sigh*

OKAY. I have some pictures for you now.

They're sketches. You've probably seen the likes of them before, but I love them. A lot. Got them from various places online.

Gavroche:

Okay, that's enough for now. But I do have more.

I have never seen most of those Montréal pics. Thanks, Orestes!

Love those sketches, LML.

I love both recordings almost equally, though I find myself listening to the Mexican one more often because of its excellent translation. The Argentine's sound quality is amazing. The orchestra jumps out at you. The Mexican recording's sound isn't as great: some parts are really low, then it gets loud and you can't hear the orchestra as clearly. There's also this woman in the audience who speaks LOUDLY for about 15 seconds during the prologue. Thankfully she shuts up for the rest of the show, lol.

As for the casts, both have their strengths and weaknesses. I love the Argentine Fantine, Valjean (who's also on the Mex recording), Eponine, the kids, the Thenardiers, and Javert. I'm not too fond of the Marius, Enjolras, and Cosette. It's a great soundboard, though my copy has many skips and clicks in it for some reason, especially during the loud parts. Not sure if it has always been like that or if it's just my copy.

The Mexican cast is vocally stronger overall, imo. Leonardo Luiz's Enjolras is incredible as is Rodrigo de la Rosa's Marius. I sort of like Natalia Sosa's Eponine, but Pili is 10,000 times better. Claudia Cota's Cosette is wonderful.

As for the Spanish recording...the translation is so bad, it makes me weep, lol. But the cast is pretty good.

Yay! Good, cos I really love the sketches. But that's my Book obsession.

That Monty sketch I leave everywhere...

Theodule and M. Gillenormand:

I think this is Jondrette's lair again:

Valjean and Cosette chez Jondrette:

Ponine thinking she's alone in Marius's room:

Valjean burning himself and pwning during the robbery:

WOULD YOU LIKE MY HAT? (one of the greatest moments of the Book, imo):
Image

Mme T tries to attack Javert:

That *other* barricade Hugo describes for a while:

Valjean arrives at the barricade with the fifth uniform:

Shooting down the mattress:

Marius and Gillenormand:

Cosette on the morning of the battle:

Valjean letting Javert go:

Barricade overrun:

The sewers:

And now you've seen about half of my sketches... but I don't want to make excessively long posts...
