My drama teacher to one of my friends: The musical is pretty much the book without the boring polital stuff.

Yes, because all that political drab is so unnecessary. I mean, it's not like we have anything to learn from it.

When we went for my birthday last year my 12 year old brother was forced to come. Questions he asked:

Randomly through Look Down; 'Why did that girl cut her hair' Refering to Fantine, you could tell he had been thinking about that for a long time.

Also, a few years ago when I was watching the TAC he asked me what a prostitute was, that was an awkward situation!

:o  I made my brother watch the movie two days ago and he asked some pretty weird questions. "Which one's Fantine?" "Why did that lady cut her hair?" etc. etc. He also pronounces it Les Miserable...after hearing the correct pronunciation 100000000000 times a day from me...

My mother doesn't want to see it because she says it's "too miserable" and she can't even translate the title...

When people mispronounce Les Miserables. I explained to my grandmother that you pronounce it like "Lay- Mis-er-ob", and she just kept saying it how it looks. "Less Miserables".

I just gave up and let her keep doing it. It felt like a lost cause.

Our grandmothers are going to be best friends! Mine thought Les Mis was set on a ship...

Then there's the perennial "French Revolution" bit.

No! 1832, folks! NOT 1789!

I hate it when people do that. I have to explain that on average 3+ times a day. GAH. The trials of being a Mizzie...

I've heard so many stupid questions about Les Miz so I'll mention just the most ridiculous.

My friend (after having listened to the entire CSR): So why on Earth did those boys build the barricade?
My dad: That cop was chasing Jean Valjean just for a piece of bread? How stupid.
And finally...
My mum: I don't understand why you love this musical so much. Prostitutes, violence, death scenes every five minutes... You definitely shouldn't get so excited about this.

Build a barricade, take her prisoner like they did Javert and force her on pan of having to listen to the soundtrack over and over until she dies to admit that it is the best musical in the world. SIMPLES! :D

I know, it's been ages, but I've got an interesting story!

I have a neighbor who used to know the mother of a girl who played Young Cosette on Broadway. Apparently this mother used to complain that for 20+ years the show has used her daughter's image as its logo, yet no one ever paid her a cent. :?

My neighbor believed her and was astonished when I told her that the logo is, in fact, a 19th century illustration.

All of these have given me a good laugh
I once heard somebody say their favorite song from Les Misérables (mispronounced, mind you) was "But The Tigers Come At Night". Could not contain myself.
