Just remind her that it the 'French way'. They used to [and still do] have these uprisings every now and then when they take to the streets and challenge the establishment. The only time it REALLY worked was the Frebnch Revolution but they tried before then and after then.

Just look at the riots in Paris a few months ago. Its still going on now.

Weeeell, the barricades worked in 1830 and 1848 too, there was just a lot less cutting off of heads involved. Heh.

Silly boys. "Let's build a barricade, it worked two years ago!"
"But there isn't as much general unrest and--"
"We still have the working classes behind us! Am I right, boys? ...boys?"
"....."
"....oh, merde."

My mum: I don't understand why you love this musical so much. Prostitutes, violence, death scenes every five minutes... You definitely shouldn't get so excited about this.

My dad actually said somthing simmilar to that in the car.

My friend (after having listened to the entire CSR): So why on Earth did those boys build the barricade?

 My mom still doesn't understand the principle of a barricade. "Okay... so they shut themselves off at the end of a street... with a limited supply of food and ammunition... and are waiting for the army to come kick their butts? What kind of a combat strategy is that?" I tried to explain about fortification and city-wide revolt and little narrow twisty streets that aren't particularly easy to get troops and artillery down, but she keeps boggling.

My dad says exactly the same things. I also try to explain, I talk for hours about city-wide revolts and mass support and revolutionary crowds but he still repeats "It seems that those boys just wanted to kill themselves"

My Dad: In the perfect cast of Les Mis, I'd play Javert, your mother would be Fantine, and [my brother]: would be Marius.

Me: And who would I be?

Dad: You'd be the third whore from the left.

I love my dad. And oddly enough, guess who I was in my camp's "Hey, Big Spender" number!

I have a black coat what's very like Javert's dark blue one (with two lines of buttons, collar and all you need).

My father:
"You look like that policeman in that... I dunno."

So that's the reason I'm using the name of Javert, although I'm a woman.

When Fantine started singing in the Finale:

I was reading outside a café yesterday when this jock type--whose friend had clearly just dared him to go flirt with the freaky goth chick--started pestering me. The entire one-sided conversation was incredibly stupid, but I thought you guys would appreciate this excerpt:

Mr. Bigshot: So what're you reading?
* Orestes silently holds up the French edition of LM she very much wants to get back to
Mr. Bigshot: Is that like in Latin or something? What's it about?
Orestes: A great epic work about French people dying.
Mr. Bigshot: Wait, a great ape what?
