Excuse my ignorance, but how old is Anna normally played? I'm not massively familiar with the show but may end up auditioning for it!

Well, out of the major actresses that played Anna, Donna Murphy was 38, Deborah Kerr was 35, and Gertrude Lawrence was 53. And the actress who played her in my production was 44.

I concur. I know that you are in your twenties, Miss Poyner, and I think that might be a bit too young for Anna. She has a ten-year-old son, after all. However, I can see you absolutely OWNING the part when you hit thirty...your voice and acting style could suit her very well!

How's your classical soprano? The role of Tuptim is perfect for your current age, although I know you haven't played an ingenue yet.

Anna's a super dream role of mine. Audition anyway :) I probably will never get to play her.

Thanks everyone! My initial thoughts were that I'd be too young! The next two years will see the two companies I perform with put on BATB, Hello Dolly, The King & I and Sugar (Some Like it Hot). Not the best selection for belters!

SLY - I can sing soprano, but it's not the most comfortable area of my voice. It's much stronger than it used to be though! So who knows?
