Post Score Analysis
I've read Scott Miller's chapter on JCS, but I'm wondering if anybody has come across other resources on the show. Particularly I'm interested in the things accomplished musically in the show and about the concept album's genesis in terms of the rationale for character's themes, vocal ranges, etc.

One thing I learned in conversation with Barry Dennen (original Pilate on the album, Broadway and in the film) was that "Pilate's Dream" was originally intended for Pilate's wife, as in the original Biblical tale, but TR and ALW liked working with him and wanted to introduce him earlier in the recording. As luck would have it, it made better dramatic sense anyway. To quote Barry: "You can't wait 'til halfway through for the character to appear. He has to show up near the beginning of it to establish himself as a character and you're interested in him. When he reappears in the second act, you know who he is and you understand what he is about."
