Post Film remake by Marc Platt?

Anyone have any support or more info on this?

Film versions of musicals get me so nervous anymore with the inevitable changes and the occasionally dodgy casting...

Post Adam Lamvert as Judas?
From BroadwayWorld: Adam Lambert has heard about the remake (which looks like it would be a Universal project) and says he is starting to publicly campaign for the role of Judas.

Hmmm... do you suppose he'll shed his glam image for the role? I suppose it would depend on the film's concept... :P

Anyways, it also seems as though Marc Webb has been tossed around as an option for director...

^ As soon as I heard Lambert sing on American Idol, particularly the rockier songs, I said "Oh, he should play Judas." It would certainly be easy for him vocally, and it would sound good.

But yeah, I would like to see him shed the glam image for the role. Even if the film's concept is amenable to it, I feel it should be toned down.

On the note of Judas' look - Something that seemed odd to me ever since I saw the 2000 DVD was Judas wearing a black leather jacket, the whole Leader of the Pack look. I mean, he states his fear of radicalism in his opening number. He doesn't want Jesus' group to go too far - he's arguably the most conservative apostle. And yet his wardrobe there indicates a hardass, rebel type.

The screenwriter of record for the project is Craig Pearce, Baz Luhrmann's collaborator on most of his early films (Strictly Ballroom, Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge, and no doubt more). There are a few statements from him on his view of it, or about him writing it at these links below.

http://moulinrouge.yuku.com/topic/2662/ ... ssion.html (archived version of article originally at http://old.smh.com.au/entertainment/moulin1012.html)
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/06/ ... 22740.html
http://www.awg.com.au/artman/pdf/Storyline3/craig.PDF

These are the ones that go into the most detail about what he plans to do with it and what they expected from him. Basically, it sounds like a better version of the 2000 video's concept, but how well it will go is anyone's guess. If Gale Edwards' production was a trial run, I really hope they make some changes, and that at least the full score is retained.

What was missing from that production that was really substantial? It did the job, at any rate: except for "King Herod's Song", which uses the jarring "pastiche" orchestration that was originally used instead of the more recent "rock" orchestration, I thought it was fine from a score point of view. Unless there's some terrible gap about which I've forgotten...

If they use the pastiche orchestrations, which are, to a certain extent, pretty famous now, I'm hoping they get Seth McFarlane as Herod. How perfect wout that be?

It would be very funny!

I really don't want Lambert as Judas.

I was referring to the film remake when I said that I hoped the full score was retained. As for Edwards' production, if that was anything like what this will be, then I really do hope they make some changes to their concept.

Oh, all right then. The way you said it made it sound like there were cuts all over the place.

Just hope they won't do a "pop" version with Adam Lambert and other people...
