^ I've not seen him live, but I can kinda guess as much from the recording. I really like his Judas. Overall I dig that production's recording the most of what I've heard. I know people will balk and say that the concept album's the best, etc. But I just prefer it over all the ones I've heard as a recording as far as sound quality, instrumentation, etc.

Anywho, I would like to hear a Judas on record who can accomplish the same stuff live without injury. Pradon was able to do what he did on record, but there's absolutely no way he could have performed it live consistently. He's a baritone. It just does not work. You can tell Varla would have had some rough spots. We know the problems Vereen and Head faced. This is one of the reasons why I think Adam Lambert would be good [edit: vocally] for the role. He'd be able to do it 8 times a week consistently, it seems.

Yes, but I'd rather look at Jerome act it than Lambert. Lambert is just too....give me a word for it....goth-tinkerbell

I've seen clips of him as Fiyero in Wicked, and he was fairly straightforward in terms of presentation. We shall see.

It's not just screaming, kids. You've got to have passion. Can Adam Lambert scream? Yes. But does he have the passion? No, and that's why he'll never get Judas in the rumored big-budget remake even though he's campaigning for it.

Non-confrontationally, on what do you base the claim of no passion?

Also, do you have a favorite for the rumoured role?

My personal favorite for the rumored role would never be cast in a million years, so rather than waste my time on fantasies, I will address your first question with a link:

^ The above is Adam Lambert doing "Heaven on Their Minds." He seems to have enthusiasm for doing the part of Judas and that's great, but really, he's only vocally capable. He's barely passable as an actor in mostly terrible musicals (Wicked notwithstanding), and he doesn't seem to have the full force, to me, to put the role across. The only thing he has going for him at the moment is his prestige as this century's flamboyant high-pitched vocalist (a century ago, it was Freddie Mercury). Will I necessarily complain if he's cast? No. But I'll be very disappointed.

I'm less dubious since that performance you reference is out of context from the show itself. Still, your doubts about his acting ability is well-made as exposure to audiences has been almost exclusively as a singer. People forget sometimes that simply having a great voice isn't enough.

I saw him in Ten Commandments live at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood...didn't like him then, don't like him now. And even though that was a bad musical, Kevin Earley and Lauren Kennedy managed to get through it with my praise. I like Ron Bohmer. Example of a baritone who can barely sing the role of Judas, but gets away with it through fiery passion. Look him up on Youtube.
