Post Broadway Dangerous Game tempo changes
So, I thought I would start a little friendly discussion about, well, my favorite subject. Sort of.

Originally, the tempo of Dangerous Game toward the end was much slower, but more intense. At some point during the run, the ending became much faster, almost spoken in rhythm, the drums kinda went crazy, etc. and, in my opinion, it sort of became a mess.

Which version do you prefer, and why?

Towards the end of the run all the tempos were sped up and the orchestra became much more sloppy. I prefer the original tempos.

The tempo is fairly strict as written in the score. It seems the OBC recording slowed a lot of the phrases down specifically Letting Go, In His Eyes and Dangerous Game. There was also LOADS of unwritten syncopation on the recording. Our MD taught it as written in the first instance and then allowed us to move it a bit as the shower got closer. It's hard relearning something that you've learned from the original recording!!!

I don't like the faster tempos for Dangerous Game, it just ruins the mood for me...well, maybe not completely, but the faster tempo just gives it a different feel then the slower one on the OBC. When I listen to the OBC, Hyde and Lucy sleeping together feels more consensual between the characters, but with the faster Broadway speeds, it seems more like Hyde's just going to rape Lucy. That's just how I see it though.
