To fix this show. I'm setting to work on my definitive version to put on, much like I did with Chess. I already know what I want to do, but I'd be curious for suggestions on things that can be changed or cut. Just so you know, I think This is the moment and A New Life don't belong in the show and should be cut. However I'm not going to be the one with the guts to do it. So other than keeping those two in, I'm doing whatever I must to make this a good show.

I think that, even with keeping those songs, the FCLO version is widely acclaimed as being as close to definitive as one would want. Also, a poster on this forum named "Alexia Dark" has come up with a terrific version of the show that you should really take a look at.

I've seen the Fullerton Civic Light Opera version and also productions that have used the script. It is not that good. In fact, many aspects of the Original Broadway production were better.

Cut "A New Life?" Sacrilege! That's my favorite song in the whole show. And I've always thought of it as Lucy's big personal breakthrough moment in the story. And then she dies.

I do agree with you on "This Is the Moment," though. Really has no purpose. Doesn't do anything for plot, character or theme.

Thank you for the recommendation!

Yes, Jekkie, I have undertaken this task myself as well, basing the plotline/timeline on the 1941 film, which is similar yet more effective than the Broadway version. I'll send along a PM with the details.

to do a good version you need a new score.

Of course, but it is possible to make it better.

I respectfully beg to differ. I adore the score of this show; it is the lyrics and the length of songs that need work. It may be one pseudo-pop ballad after another, but when actually placed in context and sung by committed performers, I believe it could do very well. If I could, I would replace This Is The Moment with I Need To Know, but it is too closely identified with the show. But if all else fails, less percussion, more violin :p.

P.S. Sorry for hijacking your thread, Jekkie. If you'd rather, I'll start another one.

Who gave you permission to edit the show? Correct me if I'm wrong in assuming you're not Wildhorn or Bricusse.
