Director of Chicago movie.
James Lapine writing the script.

I think this should be great. I highly suspect Anne Hathaway for Little Red.

Well the fact Disney is involved with this movie there gonna want to make child-friendly*If Walt was around it would be a completely different story* And I've only seen POTC 4 which I thought wasn't a very good film at all. And I'm sure there gonna make it CG animated with everyone looking like plastic, and getting celeb actors who cannot act and will be auto tuned. This thought is just scary for me.

Rob Marshall has, like, the most depressing filmography ever.

Chicago was a fluke. A very good fluke.

But seriously. Memoirs of a Geisha. Nine. Pirates 4.

That's abysmal.

I'm hoping they won't water it down (I have a hard time imagining Into the Woods watered down, it doesn't seem possible to remove it's darker themes without changing it completely...yet again, this is Disney...)

Though my biggest fear is casting. I've got a bad feeling about that...

Elliot, who knows! It could be high time for his comeback! Nine wasn't terrible....it just wasn't on the same level as Chicago. It had potential, but he ran out of ideas, sadly.

The good thing about ITW, however, is that he cannot, I don't think at least, use the concept of the musical numbers being imagined to justify their occurrences. They have to be justified simply by the fact that it's a fairy tale, and a musical. Unless, of course, he steals the concept from the production in Britain most recently, where the narrator is a child, and everything is from their point of view blah blah blah. But then Act 2 would get really messy if the child is sucked in and killed and then how are the remaining songs imagined?

I don't know. Hopefully he has some good ideas brewing. But in any case, as far as casting is concerned, the hardest role to do, I think, will be the Witch. It has to be someone with a name, but someone with enough vocal prowess to really be great. I'm not sure one could get away with autotune on her stuff. Any ideas???

Is it bad that I kind of want Idina Menzel to do it? Oh, and for Cinderella, I think it NEEDS to be Amy Adams. I'd say Anne Hathaway, but with Les Mis, this won't be possible.

Call me incurably optimistic, but I think this might work, so long as they get casting right. Marshall's big problem seems to be casting; his laissez-faire attitude towards miscasting worked in Chicago, but only drew negative press and reviews in Memoirs of a Geisha and Nine. If he casts honest-to-god singing and dancing entertainers in the roles, then we have a fighting chance of liking it.

I would actually adore Idina Menzel as the Witch. I think she has a lot of acting cred that not many people see in her. Another great choice might be Donna Murphy, who did Mother Gothel in Tangled. Say, any news on whether or not this will be animated?

Amy Adams would be great as Cinderella, but in all honesty I'd prefer Kristen Bell on account of her amazing voice. To be fair I just love Kristen Bell.

I get the feeling that the younger roles like Jack and Little Red will be harder to cast. I've seen adults play kids on film, and it never ever works (remembers Roberto Benigni's Pinocchio, shudders), but the alternative of casting children in Sondheim roles written for adults seems equally gross (remembers Toby in Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd, shudders)

Yes, I was thinking Kristen Bell as well. She'd be wonderful if not Adams. And who knows, even if Adams was Cinderella, Bell would make a wonderful Rapunzel.

Donna Murphy would also make a lovely witch. And what about Debra Monk as Jack's mother? And I'm thinking Colfer and Michelle are definitely going to be gunning for Little Red and Jack, though I think both would be sub-par choices, especially Colfer. Jack has to be on the verge of manhood. And as a fellow gay actor, I'm not sure Colfer can play anything other than feminine. As for Michelle....it *could* work, but I'd be interested to see who else was up for it.

The Baker's Wife is probably going to be another tough role to cast. Is it weird that I'd actually love to see Meryl Streep? She's far too old now, of course, though in her prime she would have been perfect. What about Sarah Jessica Parker? I KNOW. That's out of left field. But think about it for a second. It could work. Her voice is perfect, and she'd nail the comedy.

Does this mean we'll get to hear "Rainbows?"

The thing that I most nervous about is Disney's involvement, because they always have their own agenda. I'm honestly afraid that they would follow the ITW Jr. tradition of cutting off the film at the end of Act I. That would just tick me off to no end lol.

The other problem (besides casting) is that Marshall expects Sondheim to write more music. Why? The score is fantastic as it is. I don't doubt Sondheim's capability as a composer.... but the idea still makes me nervous.
